Armada Screenplays is intended as a means to publicize a screenplay entitled JEANETTE written by Henry M. Pounds. Admittedly it is a novel idea to offer screenplays this way but the object of independent screenplay writers is to get their work read by somebody in a position to do something with it. If this experiment works, other writers may wish to try it and this site could be made available to them.

JEANETTE

JEANETTE is a biopic about Jeanette MacDonald who was a dancer, actress and singer on the New York stage through the 1920's and in Hollywood from 1929 to the early 1940's. Today she is remembered primarily for the series of eight motion picture musicals (mostly operettas) done at MGM with singer Nelson Eddy with whom she had an on and off love affair. The story begins with her coming to Hollywood and ends with her marriage in 1937 not to Eddy but to b-picture actor Gene Raymond. The background of the story is Hollywood and the motion picture business from its transition from the silents to the talkies through the so-called "pre-code era" so-named because codes were not enforced that could have restricted the reliance on sex to sell pictures. There was also the onset of the depression which drove most of the studios to the brink of bankruptcy and almost caused the premature end to MacDonald's career. MacDonald faced many challenges before finally achieving the pinnacle of success in what is now called "the golden age of Hollywood".

The screenplay is presented in six episodes with a story overview and screenplay summaries for the episodes. This can be accessed by request.
